COUNSELLING PSYCHOLOGY
Counselling Psychologists work collaboratively with clients of all ages in an effort to understand how individuals construct their inner reality and life experience, helping them enhance their well-being. Psychologists apply a research evidence-based, multi-modal approach to therapy in a non-prescriptive manner, acknowledging the needs of each individual client. Interventions may be brief or long-term, often issues-specific and goal-directed, guided by a philosophy that values difference and diversity, with a focus on strengths and positive growth across the life-span.
WHAT TO EXPECT
In our initial appointment we can explore your goals, aspirations and difficulties that you have been experiencing. It is also a good opportunity for you to get a sense of what it is like to work with me and whether I am a good 'fit' for you as a therapist. At this stage we can decide collaboratively what the therapy could involve and how long it may need to be. If we choose to proceed with therapy, we would then decide whether to work for a fixed length of time or in a more open ended way. Most people come to see me weekly, however some choose to attend therapy twice per week. Usually we will end therapy either after the fixed period of time decided at the beginning, or after reviewing our progress if working long- term.
