COUNSELLING
Counselling is described as a personal process. One which offers a safe, confidential space to talk about painful, confusing issues which at times may feel overwhelming.
WHY CHOOSE THERAPY?
There are many reasons people feel the need for therapy. Experiencing emotional difficulties may leave you feeling anxious or depressed. Just talking about your problems can allow a more organic process as one gains more awareness of repetitive patterns, they become easier to resolve for ourselves.
The main things Cynthia specialises in are;
Post traumatic stress disorder
Anxiety and Panic Attacks
Depression
Sexual and physical abuse
Addiction
Individuation - Self Fulfilment
*Individuation is not about individualism but has more to do with becoming everything one is capable of becoming. This is recognised as a process of growth in therapy and could be seen as "self realisation", giving more depth of meaning to our lives.
"I want to unfold. I don’t want to stay folded anywhere because where I am folded, there I am untrue." Rainer Maria Rilke

CYNTHIA'S APPROACH TO COUNSELLING
My training was based on the integrative model which means I prefer to integrate techniques and insights from a variety of therapeutic models. As a mental health counsellor working for many years within a psychotherapy department I have developed a predominantly interpersonal model one which is underpinned by psychoanalysis. This approach helps understand the way in which our early relationships live on within us, in silent invisible ways influencing our most intimate relationships in the present. A good definition of my approach would be one of relational depth - the primary focus of which is the idea that client - therapist relationship is central to the outcomes of therapy.
As a registered member of BACP I adhere closely to their ethical framework making regular use of good supervision and continuation of professional development.
