HOW IS PSYCHOTHERAPY DIFFERENT TO COUNSELLING?

Counselling and Psychotherapy are both talk therapies, they are both important in the therapy world and go hand in hand with one another.

In order to decide which therapy would work best for you would  depend on the intensity of the problem. Counselling works with conscious processes and thought and Psychotherapy works with the conscious and the unconscious processes and thought.

Psychotherapy also requires a higher level of training which usually involves a personal development process, meaning that the practitioner would have had Psychotherapy themselves.

Counselling will help a person to develop coping strategies, where as Psychotherapy can helps with current and past difficulties which requires in depth processing and psychological changes.
